I reject non-Catholic critiques of my faith for the same reason that I reject all efforts by non-Muslims (myself included) to say what "true" Islam is. Outsiders can observe & comment, but outsiders by definition reject the sources of a faith's legitimacy for teaching anything.

Isn’t that somewhat shortsighted? What about those who left the Catholic faith? Wouldn’t it be helpful to understand why?

Most American Catholics are of the cafeteria variety, if my experience is any indication. My family was nominally Catholic but mostly secular. Chicago is a very Catholic city. I went to catholic schools from K through college.

The Old Testament is full of contradictions to modern Catholicism. Should all loans be forgiven every 50 years? How many concubines can a man have? The New Testament is more coherent, but still doesn’t entirely square with American society.

Just curious, does that philosophy extend to the Protestant community as well? Do you view your views on the evangelical church as irrelevant to evangelicals since you don't practice the protestant faith?

I do not attempt to argue evangelical theology with evangelicals.
