Not in the original films. Luke is a fine everyman and frame of reference for the things going on around him, which we learn about along with him. Plinkett's "fish out of water" protagonist.

I’d say original *film*, singular. Eps 5 & 6 are all about the core characters and 1-3 are worse—retroactively, everyone from 4 is shown to be part of that core. I’d say the Disney movies push against that, we see some ordinary Galactic folks in 7/8/Rogue1.

I would have liked it much more if it had committed to that idea, but the whole "anyone can be a hero" arc got thrown under the bus as everything they tried failed and it all became a contest of which jedis had more superpowers.
