Looking back, Dunston was considered a clear #1 on talent/athleticism. I don’t remember Schmidt. SD mgt took grief for years for drafting Jimmy Jones ahead of Gooden. Spike Owen was a college star at Texas. And then at #7 overall....Slammin’ Sammy Khalifa!!pic.twitter.com/iCId87yVDb

Dunston had tremendous tools, high school hitters are harder to project than pitchers with Gooden's stuff who are all but MLB ready. I can get the difficulty of picking a pitcher over the kind of talent Dunston appeared to be.
