The debate over whether the Right should abandon the tenets of classical liberalism cannot be properly understood without the context of the decline of the remaining support for classical liberal ideals on the Left as liberals get crowded out by progressives.

The debate on the Right is largely a reaction to that shift, and an internal argument about whether to retaliate in kind vs whether to embrace the classical liberal traditon as more urgently needed now than ever.

One easy proxy for this divide is to look at things like advertiser boycotts & social media rage mobs. Should the Right make the Left live under its own rules, or should we reject those tactics as both bad for society & ultimately unwinnable for the Right?
