And now we have the Navy and the Wall Street Journal taking opposite positions.https://twitter.com/chinfo/status/1133918353490403329 …

The name of USS John S. McCain was not obscured during the POTUS visit to Yokosuka on Memorial Day. The Navy is proud of that ship, its crew, its namesake and its heritage.

Under normal circumstances, I would have no difficulty believing the Navy, and no difficulty believing the WSJ. Both have earned their credibility. But they can't both be right.

The problem is this seems like something Trump would do and also something that Trump didn’t do but the media says he did.

If you can figure out which one answers directly to the President and probably wouldn't wish to show him in a bad light, get back to us.

One way or another the truth will come out. Could see some local leader doing something stupid like that w/out USN-PA in DC knowing what had happened.

Technically they both could be. If the tarp was removed before the President arrived and the barge move was unrelated but also solved that problem, the stories would technically line uppic.twitter.com/GatcZRyG7P

There's also a photo of the ship with a tarp over it. So unless someone is misattributing it...?

US Pacific Fleet says the picture is from a different day than when the President was there, it's a made up story to smear Trump yet again.

They are both "right" here. The Navy is being a tad deceptive, however, or at least limiting the facts recited to those most favorable (to POTUS). The name wasn't blocked ultimately, but only because someone countermanded the original request.
