I remember my parents taking me to Yorktown when I was a kid. I was too young to fully appreciate it, but I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, & Spotsylvania are all doable together in one day based on their proximity. And downtown Fredericksburg is now a delightful destination spot for a home base for the trip. Highly recommend.

We plan on going to Antietam next time we visit DC with the kids.

You can easily visit Harper’s Ferry and Antietam in one trip. Jefferson raved about the beauty of the confluence of the Shenandoah and the Potomac and he was right.

You should put Vicksburg high on your list, it's worthwhile.

I recommend Antietam. All the famous landmarks (Dunker Church, the Cornfield, Bloody Lane and Burnside’s Bridge) are as they were and close together. Sharpsburg itself has changed little in 157 years. Visit the understated Texas Monument on the south side of the Cornfield.
