I'm very sympathetic to "a book contains a lot of assertions, you're bound to get one wrong." But this is THE ENTIRE THESIS OF THE BOOK.

I don’t know her work or her. But when someone tries to about a time period that isn’t their primary period, it tends not to go well. The idea of generalism is very flawed imho. I can tell you, I’d have made the same mistake she did, b/c I know 0 about Victorian England.

But I would never try to write about that period, because it’s not my area of specialty. I’ve stretched a little for reported pieces on occasion. But on small enough topics that I can do adequate research.
