I propose the Mount Everest of musical hot takes: Someone to defend the Mick Jagger-David Bowie version of Dancing in the Street. *I* will not defend it: it's maybe the worst-ever combination of two great artists joining forces to destroy a great song. I'm just curious who will.

I won’t defend it but at the time was it bad? It was a fun pre Live Aid mashup more than an attempt at great art. Bowie was at his most pop, Mick was doing solo work. There was a lot worse out there.

I get the argument that it wasn't intended to be taken seriously, but that is just mitigation. It is still bad.
