I grappled with listing "The Rising," perhaps for similar reasons. Hard not to appreciate that album in a different light if you lived in northern New Jersey (as I did) or New York on 9/11.

I worked in the WTC, and by summer 2002, my mom was dying of a brain tumor, so that album got me through some times when I really needed it.

His first two albums are criminally underrated, imo Also Nebraska

The problem is that every single song on all three of those sounds better live than in the studio. I almost never listen to the original Nebraska recordings.

Out of all of those, The River is my number one. I associate so many memories with that album when I left for college in 1981, a super-sentimental fave.

I would put both Greetings from Asbury Park and The Wild, The Innocent,... ahead of Nebraska. Regarding Born in The USA, if you’re from NY/NJ, & btwn age 45-53, the answer to “what song have you heard on the radio in your life more than any other?” might be Dancing in the Dark.

Nebraska being removed from any top 5 Bruce list is just dumb. The Rising while a few good songs (and important) had arguably Bruces worst song ever written recorded and released ("Lets be Friends/ Skin to Skin") .

I love Bruce but I despised Born in the USA when it came out, and I despise it perhaps more today. 1. Wild/Innocent/E Street Shuffle 2. Born to Run 3. River 4. Lucky Town 5. Rising
