Gen Xers that run are in trouble. We are hated by boomers AND millenials
Other than Douglas Coupland’s original book and most culture-based definitions. Someone who hadn’t reached puberty by the Summer of Love or Woodstock just isn’t of the same generation as someone who was ~30 when Saturday Night Fever was released.
Thinking in terms of "mind-sets" etc is a misuse of demographic categories. The most popular top-40 song of 1966 was not by the Stones, the Beatles, the Supremes, the Lovin' Spoonful, etc. It was Sgt. Barry Sadler's "Ballad of the Green Berets."
I stand with Strauss and Howe. Obama is unmistakably Gen X. Near the boundary, sure, but on the younger side. Obama and Bush 43 are not of the same generation.
Nobody who was in college in the 1970s is Gen X.
