In this it's kinda like how every 1960s movie has some Hendrix/Jefferson Airplane soundtrack when, at the time, that stuff had far, far less cultural saturation than later pop culture would make it appear. Nostalgia has a warping effect.

I've ranted about this before, but Garth Brooks sold more albums than Nirvana or Pearl Jam did combined. Ain't no one out here name-checking Garth Brooks as a quintessential Gen-X star.
