I don't know if there is any basis to claim that a Democratic woman would do less well because of being a woman; depends who it is. I do know that if the GOP runs Nikki Haley at some point, she will not have any such handicap.

I actually think Joni Ernst could win a national election.

she might hesitate from running because it would mean having the entire country discuss her ex-husband's abusive behavior.

You think a Nikki Haley can do a lot better in California than Trump? Not win, of course not. But at least start narrowing the gap there? I think the GOP needs to start being more competitive in California and not just start out automatically ceding 50+ EC votes right off the bat

California being as blue as it is is mostly down to social issues I think. The more Centrist on social issues a republican goes, the more California votes they get. They didn't even elect Schwarzenegger that long ago.

"Kamala Harris can win." Wrong. "I think Warren might = Hillary." Right. Times 50. "Klobuchar could win a general election, but not a national Dem primary." Wrong. Right. "On our side, I think maybe Nikki Haley could win a national election." Utterly unknowable at this point.

Haley can’t win as a Republican because she’s a minority.
