In the metal community we call this Iron Maiden Disease. It may not be THIS bad, as they rarely release pure compilations, but the amount of live albums and videos/DVDs is insane.

But did the Who actually "sign off" on all of those live and compilation albums? Sounds like a money grab by the record company during periods of band studio-album "inactivity".

Insane that the Beatles were doing 3-4 albums a year by way of contrast. If you take the body of work from 1964-73, no band, though, had a higher ratio of quality to quantity IMO. “Who Are You” makes me sad - Keith was a shadow by then.

The Beatles were unique, esp the period once they stopped touring.
