Can you name a single politician who doesn't make charitable contributions for good press? Hell, the Clinton Foundation was -- and still is -- a PR machine for the Clintons and is largely responsible for the $240MM they've earned (per Forbes) over the past 15 years.

The question is whether you only started making them when you were running for office. But yes, I can name one who really made charity a part of his life http://baseballcrank.com/archives2/2012/09/politics_mitt_r_4.php …

I don't need or want a president who gives to charity. I don't care about his character. I care about his willingness to fight on my behalf. That is all.

Of course when you are filing returns with over a billion dollars in losses there really is no financial reason to itemize and declare charitable gifts since there is no income to offset.

When I lost my job, I really cut back on my charitable giving. When I was back at work, I started back giving. I don’t think that is too hard a concept.
