The character of Fraser Crane was only supposed to be around for three episodes when the writers, who hated Shelley Long, noticed that she hated Kelsey Grammer, and decided to keep him around as long as possible.

No, no, no. Worse than your Kelly Clarkson take. The different social strata made Cheers work. Rebecca Howe was just a boss; Diane Chambers was a quasi-aristocrat and that made the dynamic (esp with Sam) much, much funnier.

The class dynamic worked at least as well with Frasier. And there's a reason why Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammer, Woody Harrelson & Bebe Neuwirth all went on to much better post-Cheers careers than Shelley Long.

Nooooo. Diane was the perfect foil for Sam. And Frasier. Rebecca was just annoying and pathetic.
