A reminder that whenever someone says that some man's life "could be ruined!" over sexual harassment allegations that no man's life has ever been ruined over such things.https://deadspin.com/disgraced-former-fox-sports-exec-jamie-horowitz-complet-1834503355?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow&utm_source=deadspin_twitter …

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "ever" is not gonna stand up well to scrutiny.https://abovethelaw.com/2018/12/biglaw-partner-found-dead-hours-after-allegations-of-inappropriate-behavior-surface/ …

Sad, but let's now line that up next to the thousands of women who have been traumatized and/or had their careers end because some jerk in power decided it was his prerogative to abuse them. Feel like false allegations are not the bigger evil here.

If you start with the demonstrably false premise that there is never any cost to punishment, you're gonna get a lot wrong. It's like saying "nobody ever had his life ruined by being convicted of a crime." It skews your whole view of due process & punishment.

The issue is not that no one’s life is harmed as such. It’s that such a thing is not a justification for not punishing wrongdoing. We’d never say that it was in the criminal context. People do all the time Re: sexual harassment. And of course, the powerful often go unpunished.

If "the issue is not that no one’s life is harmed as such," then don't say "no man's life has ever been ruined over such things." It's that simple. If your point is that too many guys get away with this stuff, that's true! I agree. What you said, however, was false.
