Here are a bunch of (still-serving) Democrats exchanging pleasantries and running through some talking points with far-right Farrakhan in 2009. https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-dems-farrakhan-problem-1517270636 …

Which they shouldn’t have done, because NOI’s rhetoric and ideology are evil (and insane.) And the GOP shouldn’t have been attempting to make nice with him in the 1990s, and he shouldn’t have gotten security contracts from the Bush Administration.

Let's please not both-sides this because Jack Kemp met with him twenty years ago. Both the Atlantic and WaPo stories are horrid journalism and this makes a mockery of antisemitism *on freaking Yom Hashoa.* Unbelievably gross.

I’m not “both sidesing” Farrakhan’s repulsive and deadly anti-Semitism.

Richard Spencer supports national healthcare so stories about him should only refer to him as a "far left leader." I honestly can't believe this conversation is taking place.

Or, we could focus on their obvious and insane bigotry. (Spencer’s focus on healthcare goes with his generally nationalist populist views.)

The discussion around Katie McHugh very quickly morphed into long discussions of pipelines and guardrails. Don't you think Farrakhan meeting with and getting praise from Democrats and prominent left-wing activists is a good example?

I think it’s a terrific example of the failure of guardrails, especially since Farrakhan hates absolutely everything they represent and yet because he’s black and his followers are black some Democrats seem to believe that that “qualifies” him in some way.

Yes, “some.” The NOI folks who hurled invective at my mother because she’s white are not my favorite people, nor are they the favorite people, I’m sure, of many.

I'm referencing his reception by Democratic politicians. As with Sharpton, there's no getting around that.
