It is possible to state this though - Non-Texans hoping a nice-enough guy would beat Cruz, one of the worst cancers in American politics, is not inconsistent with non-Texans thinking that same guy isn't someone they want running the country.

Yes because A) expectations are and should be different for a presidential candidate and B) there are better candidates in the current Dem primary field, whereas any candidate of either party against abhorrent Ted Cruz is someone to root for.
