It’s not optimal, but the game evolves. I really hope MLB doesn’t try to change the rules to fix it. That seems to be a pattern with baseball these days. I really wish they’d stop changing the game I love.

I hear announcers complaining that there's "Not enough offense in baseball". Well, I remember the last time baseball experienced a ton of offense. Many of those players will never be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

I have nowhere near the level of expertise that you have, but it seems now that every team and every hitter has adopted the "work the count deep" strategy those deep counts will end in strikeouts more often.

Strikeouts are not the results of a "work the count deep" philosophy. The increase in strikeouts, from a batter's perspective, has more to do with not having a two strike approach, and the acceptance of still taking a home run cut with two strikes.

But not unusual for the beginning of the season? Aren’t pitchers typically ahead of the hitters in the spring?
