@DamonLinker I’m 50. Was taught Lee 1st in his class West Point. Excellent military mind. Honorable man. Loyal to Virginia & that’s why he turned down Lincoln’s request to command Union forces. Internally conflicted re: war. The word “traitor” was never used.5 replies 0 retweets 13 likes -

Which made sense given Lincoln's desire to treat former Confederate soldiers and supporters in a light- handed manner, to encourage reunification after the war.

This is untrue and the Supreme Court explicitly held it to be untrue in 1869. Had such a charge been brought there was 100% chance it would have held up in court.
