AFAIK Catholic doctrine does NOT (unlike some fundamentalists) deem "being gay" in terms of being attracted to the same sex is necessarily a sin, but that is different from *acting* on that attraction. A distinction Martin tends to blur though.

No, the Catholic Church does not teach that being gay, which is a state or orientation that is not under one's control, is a sin. Sins are *actions*, not states. The Church is quite explicit about this.
