Everyone pays for the military, as we should because the alternative is privatizing the military and c'mon. Public Goods 101 here. I support the Second Amendment, but I don't want individuals having to buy ICBMs.

"The military" and "our current collection of choices and priorities when it comes to deploying and equipping the military with all of the spending, prioritization and value judgements that entails" are not exactly the same thing, of course.

We can do better in controlling costs! But the education & healthcare debates are driven by the sorts of fundamental questions not reasonably at issue in the sense of "should the military be public or private?"
