I don't share your childlike faith in the Democratic party leadership's good faith and sincerity.

I have no faith whatsoever in any party's leadership, let alone Democrats. But I know projection when I see it.

Did you read the quotes in the article? Then you can criticize my cynicism.

See, a cynic ( or a realist) would say that Democrats have their eyes on electoral chances as they also want to help people. A hack would suggest that any desire to help is insincere and all Democrats ONLY care about votes. You're a hack.

Did you read the quotes, or not? They said it out loud. They deserved to be criticized for that at the time.

Yes. Some Democrats, when asked about the political possibilities, talked about the political possibilities. You turned that into "Democrats real interest," to characterize it as the only interest of all Democrats, so as to discourage aid to PR. Because you're a hack.

It is false that I was arguing against aid to Puerto Rico, as you know, or would have known if you were reading me then or now. Why do you think it is important to claim otherwise?

Technically he “characterized” it but I don’t see a meaningful difference do you?

It's also totally missing the context. Question being debated at the time was not prospective aid but retrospective criticisms of the initial response.
