What’s more corrosive of free speech values: a show saying that criticism of the President is seditious or treasonous, or people suggesting a boycott of the show’s advertisers?
-
One can respond to the former with speech, or by trying to unplug their mic. You're siding with the latter.

You are assuming this leads to fewer voices in total. I assume it leads to less free rein for Murdoch to decide what voices we hear, unless you assume he will bankrupt the company before changing
-
IOW, less freedom for a media outlet to speak its mind without fear.

no, you want fewer voices expressing the opinion you don’t like (that fox news is heinous bullshit). boycotts are a form of expression bud

One, the voices don’t go away, they just aren’t on every platform. The very idea of a marketplace contemplates people not buying certain products or from certain vendors. Two, you do want certain acts of expression to go away—namely acts of disassociation.

Do you view an advertiser boycott as distinct from an organized “cancel your subscription” campaign against whatever publication? Also, would you think of a boycott due to a media organization firing someone as different?
