My point, then as now, is that "don't buy their product" is fine. The issue, if you have any clue of the context of the real world in 2019, is secondary boycotts.

Personally, I don’t think presidents should be involved in these pissing matches at all. But boycotts have a long tradition in America. Stalinist slurs do not. /2x
Presidents criticizing the media has, in fact, a very long history. And you know as well as I do that once you draw lines based on phrasing, you're rationalizing inconsistency. Our example today is AOC promoting a boycott targeting a newspaper.
