Albert Pujols is now hitting .242/.287/.395 over his last 1,155 plate appearances. Frankly, if I was Trout at this point I'd ask the team if I could personally buy out the rest of his contract.

Retire at age 33 and he's still a first-ballot Hall of Famer. But one with considerably less money.

I think he wants to stick around long enough to at least pass Mays in career HRs. Only 27 away.
-
That could take a while, at his current pace.

Big Frank avoided some of this by being injured during parts of his decline. But Pujols' career BA and SLG are about to slip behind Thomas' numbers. Frank, of course, has him in OBP by a distance.
-
The difference there is that Thomas' maintained his discipline and power as he aged, even while his contact ability fell off significantly. Pujols has only maintained some power and lost everything else.

He should have never left the Cards. I bet he would be doing a lot better

Wait, are you saying that Pujols' 2018 numbers (302/382/554) are bad?
-
No, just way down from the eye-popping peak.
