That belief is fostered by consuming more news from places where your own political side has no political power. Which, for conservatives, happens to include the cities in which nearly all national news and entertainment, especially on TV, is produced.

Very true, and I would love to see our discourse reflect more the fact that people are individuals rather than just members of groups. Institutions, however, may be much more cohesive than their individual components.
