Eh, except Obama was more popular than Trump, with less scandal baggage overall. Can't imagine what the Dem version of Trump would be, but imagine the GOP losing to that person twice and I'm guessing the sentiment would be similar.

Agreed. Trump is such an outlier that drawing any kind of long-term conclusions from a possible reelection would be a huge mistake for Republicans.
