After a few years of Magic & Bird, yes. In 1978, kids in Boston still wanted to be Fred Lynn or Yaz or Fisk, not Havlicek or Cowens.

Up to the late 70s, it was baseball. The Big Red machine in mid-70s (I was in the deep south, outside the NY influence). In 77/78 Reggie's Yankees held sway. Football was king, but baseball had the individual stars.
