In the last 20 years, we've added 1.6 billion people. In the last 10 years, we've added 900 million people. In the last 5 years, we've added 450 million people. We are more than replacing ourselves as a species.

There is no need to replace each generation fully. We could see a modest decline (5%) for the next 1000 years and still have well north of a billion people on the planet. Probably would be good for us (less resource contention) and the planet.

to be clear that is a 5% decline per generation, assuming birth cycle of 30-35 years.
