Mocking a bad idea is not speech policing. I'm against being stupid on purpose.

What would your name be for someone that advocates needless and endless wars but never served in any of them or even in peacetime?

Both "Chickenhawk" and "neocon" are indeed used as thought-terminating cliches these days. (The latter had a useful context in the late-60s/early 70s for a very specific type of liberal leaving the fold over the new left's pro-communist foreign policy turn.) 1/2

I don't think "neoconservative" should be banned as a word. I do think it's a word that is so often used for something besides its actual meaning that we ought to cast a skeptical eye at people who throw it around without caring if it's accurate. Words either mean things, or nah

@MaxBoot@EliLake How about the people who still wear the neoconservative label proudly? (#AskingForAFriend) -
Max Boot is not a neoconservative because he is no longer a conservative of any kind. I'm not sure how even he could dispute that by now.

I’m usually with you BBC but Paul Ryan is a neocon and Richard Spencer is an antisemite. I have never heard their names switched in category.

Chickenhawk is a perfect word to describe John Bolton, who never met an elective war he didn't like.. other people to fight. Trump supporters using that word is nonsense because they support saber rattling vs Iran, Venezuela, & anywhere else Trump/his current advisors do that daypic.twitter.com/urPe9pFJI5
