You can get the education without most of the bundling, but you can't get it with the prestigious name. If all you care about is the education, that's pretty do-able...

I'm not sure this is completely true. At this point, I think the "lifestyle" is baked into the higher education cake. I'm not sure if UChicago cut its tuition, there would be a glut of lower/middle class kids applying.

Correct! College funding is a redistribution scheme-a tax on the middle class (and wealthy.) It’s unfair. Penalizes saving, forcing responsible ppl to subsidize the non-savers. Makes middle class ppl fund lavish spending of rich administrators. It’s why tuition’s so high

Hell my school declared that commuters had to have a meal plan to subsidize the cafeterias.

By the by, the plan was an obvious subsidy for the food service provider seeing as it cost $500 and came with $400 in meal money.
