We have a prior example of what happens when you move the mound back: 1893. The short term effects on pitching careers were ugly, & scoring got massively out of control. NL runs per game (ERA): 1891: 5.54 (3.34) 1892: 5.09 (3.28) 1893: 6.57 (4.66) 1894: 7.38 (5.33)
True, but the margins are so much tighter these days.
