    Like Lincoln, Frederick Douglass was practical as well as principled. In 1856, he explained why he supported John C. Fremont & the Republicans even though they were not campaigning on the full abolition of slavery, rather than cast a third-party vote for anti-slavery purists.

    Yes. I don't agree with all of those people all the time - heck, I didn't agree with Reagan on everything - but they don't have the fundamental issues of character that have always been at the core of my critique of Trump.

    The key with the NT crowd is the new group of politicians: DeSantis, Youngkin, & Cotton. If that group is “beyond the pale,” that’s more a reflection on the ideological drift of NT than the GOP.

    It’s literally not ANY kind of deal. “Digital blackface” is not a thing. OTOH, the “friendly reminder” condescension smacks of the worst sort of gatekeeping privilege.

    This blew up. I'm 100% guilty of doing this and I'm trying to be more intentional about it. I'm also open to other perspectives and encourage the conversation if people don't think it's a big deal.

    I've heard this too. Some people want to bully others, & if you acculturate them to believe that bullying is fine so long as it's done in service of x-whether x is nationalism or patriotism or Godliness or white supremacy or social justice-they will use the pretext you gave them

    Unfortunately, the candidate I voted for in 2016 - Evan McMullin - is every bit as embarrassing as Mandel, & for the same reasons.

    Here’s a principle, : Never support someone you readily admit is a “national embarrassment.” Just don’t. See 2016. This may be your contorted, tribal view of the world—but it is not how most Americans think politics should work.

    Policy matters. It matters more with legislators. Ryan is wrong across the board on policy. Why willingly support someone who will vote for things that harm America & will resist needed oversight of the White House?

    Uh…, if you put party before country, the 3rd thing is true. If you put country before party, it isn’t.

    Simple. Neither has any principles, but Mandel will follow the party wherever it goes; Vance is a loose cannon with big-government instincts domestically & worse on foreign policy. Mandel's a weathervane, Vance is a paper airplane. At least a weathervane is nailed to *something*

    They prefer Mandel to Vance, but they will never say why. Why, Dan, do you find Mandel preferable to Vance? They don’t answer for a reason.
