On a completely unrelated matter, coming from Colorado, California has the USA's worst tire chain laws for winter weather
.@hotelzululima @sergeybratus California state inspectors confirm you're spinning out with chains on bare asphalt before proceeding

@bascule@sergeybratus I didnt say it made sense.. I just said you can be cited for no chains in a chain only weather condition/road -
@hotelzululima they won't let you by -
@bascule that is correct for the interstate.. but if one avoids that area and is caught down the road without its a fine :(

@bascule@hotelzululima So how does one exercise reasonable judgment based on experience? I feel I'm missing something :) -
@sergeybratus@bascule dont know when I lived in illinois wis and newfoundland we NEVER used chains studded tires were another story -
@hotelzululima@bascule I opted for "mud-and-snow" tires on my truck in NH --and I don't think I saw chains around here all that much either -
@sergeybratus@hotelzululima studded snow tires + 4WD are the only compensating control for chains -
@bascule@hotelzululima Sounds perfectly insane to me - having 4WD & snow tires, would one really need chains except in special conditions? -
@sergeybratus@bascule if its that bad then time to push the snowmobile off the trailer.. and park the 4wd... -
@hotelzululima@bascule Yep, exactly :)
