@bascule People are not using Golang because of Google’s brand; if anything, it’s a liability. Dart, dunno. Maybe.

@tqbf what's compelling about Go besides Google's brand? A fast compiler and static linking, but I can get that with C... -
@bascule You don’t have to like or pay attention to Golang; it’s pragmatic to the expense of all else, sure. But why make shit up? -
@tqbf I'm honestly curious: why use Go? -
@bascule Almost as fast as C, better type system than C, memory safe, extremely excellent tooling. Case closed? -
@tqbf sounds like Rust... -
@bascule And when people start using Rust you’ll be on to the next beta language wondering why anyone bothers with Mozilla’s language. -
@tqbf I'm still using Ruby (unfashionable) and whining about people caring too much about language fashion. What are you talking abput? - 1 more reply

@bascule Go is good tech. It just makes different trade offs. The most obvious one is trading a bit of safety for comprehension. -
@jessemcnelis Go punts on the hard problems (concurrent state mutation) rather than solving them, which makes programs harder to understand -
@bascule language safety features are only as valuable as the time they save in getting to a reasonably correct program. -
@jessemcnelis tell me that after you've spent a few weeks/months tracking down a concurrent mutation error in production

@bascule while I agree with you, Go has a huge head start and better credentials behind it. -
@peregrine Go has more traction, but it's an outgrowth of Plan 9, i.e. yesterday's tech . The world has moved on -
@bascule yesterday's tech for SOME, channels and go routines look real fresh to the Java/Ruby programmer. -
@peregrine I've had@celluloidrb users tell me the opposite after trying Go -
@bascule@celluloidrb Would you agree that MOST haven't used celluloid and seen its benefits?
