@dakami The 2nd or 3rd most popular way of deploying apps on the most popular app framework is a “special case”.

@tqbf Look, PHP runs a really easy way to management deployment. Rails added support for it and benefitted.

@dakami @tqbf I sure hope you're talking about Heroku and not Passenger. Passenger is terrible

@bascule @dakami @tqbf What makes you say that? If you've had a bad experience with Phusion Passenger, anything we can do to help you?

@phusion_nl @dakami @tqbf does your non-commercial open source version support threads yet?

@bascule @dakami @tqbf It supports out-of-band garbage collection, real-time response buffering, superior admin tools, zero-copy, etc.

@bascule @dakami @tqbf If despite all those, price is still your primary concern, then we're afraid we can't help you.

@phusion_nl @dakami @tqbf the larger concern is how easily I can DoS it by running wrk on my laptop (same could be said of slowloris)

@bascule @dakami @tqbf You cannot DoS Passenger with Slowloris-like attacks, see my detailed response here:https://gist.github.com/FooBarWidget/6470958 …

@phusion_nl @dakami what about if I find the slowest endpoint in the app and hammer it with wrk

@bascule @dakami If the workload is I/O bound, then yes threads will help a lot. Which category does your workload belong to?

@phusion_nl @dakami there are likely to be any number of I/O bound endpoints in any Rails app, any one of which can be used for DoS

@bascule @dakami In fact, servers like Unicorn are optimized for that latter case that I described, because it's so common.

@phusion_nl @dakami servers like Unicorn are also extremely easy to DoS using this method

@bascule @dakami That depends on your app's workload. If it's CPU bound then threads will not help you any more than processes do.
