I think it won't be too long (end of the decade) before M:N microthread systems (e.g. Erlang, Go) lose out to 1:1 native thread systems
@filterfish well, among other things, it dramatically simplifies the model by moving all the scheduling responsibilities to the OS

@bascule but system threads consume significantly more resources both memory & time. Not to mention they are a shared memory model. -
@filterfish@bascule and in general the language runtime has more information available to make scheduling decisions.
