@capotej trololol -
@bascule not trolling, genuinely curious -
@capotej in that case, failed.each_with_index instead of the for loop -
@bascule ah, yea, thought you meant general ruby, not just erb -
@capotej I do mean Ruby in general. There's also Enumerator#with_index that covers most of the remaining cases -
@bascule tons of cases where i want to increment things outside of a loop, smell == always bad -
@capotej I don't think of code smells as "always bad", just a sign something is probably wrong and can be done better

@bascule I find it odd that you point out "+= 1" and not that he's assigning variables at all in an ERb template. -
@jamie_gaskins the entire template is horrible

@bascule the for/in bothers me too, but I'm picky I guess https://github.com/defunkt/resque/blob/master/lib/resque/server/views/failed.erb#L20 … -
@jc00ke point being the two could be combined into#each_with_index - End of conversation

@bascule debatable. low level Ruby can use loops on Fixnums. We certainly do in Rubinius kernel. We inline blocks but not always enough. -
@brixen acceptable reasons for += 1: FOR SPEED! lol -
@bascule@brixen god forbid you use postcrement instead of precrement!!1!#becausealllanguagesareCXX
