@luislavena can I use rake-compiler to build the source code for an FFI extension?
@luislavena long story short, I'm just trying to compile a shared library in a portable manner, then make a Ruby FFI wrapper around it

@bascule@luislavena certain FFI bindings have done something like that, but it's risky. Better to have the user install the lib in question -
@postmodern_mod3@luislavena it's not a library... I have to build it into a library. -
@bascule@luislavena still I think you need to modify LD_LIBRARY_PATH? -
@postmodern_mod3@luislavena ugh o_O maybe I should just make a normal MRI cext and a Java version for JRuby -
@bascule@luislavena or release the bit of C code as a library so other languages can use it? -
@postmodern_mod3@luislavena too much work when all I care about is a Ruby binding *shrug* -
@bascule@luislavena it's actually not that much work. Go find a boilerplate Makefile, upload a tar.bz2 to github, add a homebrew recipie. -
@postmodern_mod3@luislavena and a Debian package? and an RPM? - 8 more replies

@bascule sorry, but again twitter is not the best media to answer this :-P
