This seems like a better use of our time than http://app.net : http://tent.io/blog
@postmodern_mod3 XMPP needs a server. I'm talking about a fully distributed, encrypted, anonymous chat system with disconnected operation

@bascule you could run a XMPP server locally, and federate to trusted server. It's still not as turn-key as p2p protocols. -
@postmodern_mod3 then messages only get delivered if both sides are up. Also lol "just run an XMPP server, problem solved" ;) -
@bascule@postmodern_mod3 if you want it fully distributed but messages to be persisted if one is offline, you'll need a DHT or something -
@konstantinhaase@postmodern_mod3 Cryptosphere will use Kademlia -
@bascule@postmodern_mod3 from my experience DHTs add pretty heavy load bandwidth and/or memory wise -
@konstantinhaase@postmodern_mod3 everyone who runs BitTorrent is already using one *shrug* -
@bascule@postmodern_mod3 ... instant messaging -
@konstantinhaase@postmodern_mod3 I'm actually thinking of something closer to a digital dead drop than IM - 1 more reply
