    Do you ever start reading 's work and then get lost down a delightful rabbit hole of interesting and thought-provoking posts that lead further and further into a sense of meaning and self-awareness? I suspect that's a pretty common impact of her work.

    Can you imagine your CEO calling you a p***** b**** after you make a mistake like the Maryland coach is quoted as saying in this article? If you can, you should quit tomorrow. We shouldn’t accept it in sports any more than in business or at home.

    Every person who’s played sports has stories like@this. Too many to count. Our sports culture is toxic. It doesn’t have to be. Leadership principles are no different in sports than anywhere else.

    I’ll never forget middle school basketball when our coach (I’ll never forget his name and he wasn’t even the worst I had) created an artificial barrier so he could only play the kids he wanted to play. Run a 6 minute mile or you won’t be eligible to play in games until you do.

    It’s dangerous on every level. It’s amazing how a coach can make a human believe they are true scum of the earth because of an error made during a GAME, or even worse practice. It eats at you and makes you believe the only option is to follow direction until you collapse.

    Little league tournament baseball. Middle school football and basketball. High school baseball. It happened repeatedly to me and my teammates growing up. Toxic cultures with toxic masculinity at the heart of it.
