Anyone who cares about the future of America as a place where citizens are free to protest the government needs to understand what just happened in Canada. Then they need to work to stop it from taking root here. Read on Trudeau & truckers:

Joshua Katz’s wife told the Times: “Nobody wants to be seen in his presence, in his company, in his friendship.” That’s an indictment of . Not of my friends.

Here’s the playbook: person expresses thoughtcrime. The Puritans and the bureaucrats go digging. Then they caricature and smear the person based on their worst moment or mistake. They pretend it’s about that, but the thoughtcrime was always the thing.

In about 20 years (if there is anyone sane left in academia by then), someone will work out just how much damage was done by all the crazy campaigns of character assassination that followed the Great Awokening. The case described here is only one of many:

As an alum of the I’m devastated by this story about David Sabatini, mTOR pioneer and one of the greatest cancer researchers in the world.

The most chilling part, to me: The NIH retaliates against NYU dean Bar-Sagi for even thinking about hiring Sabatini. Government supported research has a big downside, it eliminates the safety valve of competition.

Here's what colleagues and trainees of David Sabatini told me about the culture in his lab: "a crucible where you became refined" "I fell in love with science" "a display of human achievement" "a culture of excellence" "rigorous" "people actually tried to help each other"

One scientist said the depiction of Sabatini's lab in the Whitehead report is "alternate reality," and the characterization of Sabatini as lascivious and retaliatory "deeply insane." Another said: "They have the wrong guy."

I worked next door to David Sabatini’s lab. If you were in molecular biology / genetics you knew him & his work. The delta btw what was said privately vs publicly was stark. His cancelation is a great travesty to science & humanity. Well done

This is a tragedy. What happened to makes a complete mockery of what sexual harassment is and is not. Kudos to and on this detailed breakdown of what happens when due process is thrown out the window.

A compelling and frightening account of a system designed to destroy people. Speak out for a colleague unfairly accused, and you will find yourself under investigation, too.
