Reading the tea leaves here, it seems to be a problem with custom elliptic curves, which the industry has been moving away from. I would wager that conforming TLS 1.3-only clients are not susceptible to this class of problem. Still, most PKIX libraries support older use cases.

And it’s the end... 2020 didn’t disappoint! Super interesting talks and organization. For next year I’d suggest more industry participation. Google, Facebook, Mozilla and so on, aren’t very good examples of real world enterprises.

Nice presentation from Yannic Sierra on how Apple protects our privacy when using FindMy app. Nevertheless, I’m not sure this was convincing 😏

“Increasing usability of the frameworks increases usage of MPC”. Lack of documentation & general software eng issues seem to be the major problems of these OS MPC frameworks. Thanks for the great talk Marcella Hastings

TPM attacks at . Intel PTT - most common built-in TPM (fTPM). Clearly non-constant time implementation for ECDSA (and RSA as well). Extracted private keys from the device using the standard lattice attack when the nonce size leaks. Took 3-4 minutes only.

An example of weak “crypto” implementations, presented by Pierrick on Russian evoting system. Though if we’d get the chance to go through all implementations, we’d get a “negligible” amount of them right. Developers don’t know crypto & very few cryptographers are developing.

I wrote an article to simply explain side channels in SGX and other trusted execution environments, and why they are good as a secondary security measure but not a primary one.
