It’s rude to ask guests to take off shoes in your house. When you’re a guest, you should feel like you’re at home. I’ll clean up when you leave. If you want to take your shoes off, that’s also ok but not necessary.

Does this apply to smokers that normally smoke inside their home?

Not everyone smokes, but everyone travels on the ground. Not the same thing.

I don’t use a coaster myself at home, so no loss there. 🙂

Agree. It is also rude to not show respect to your host. When I am a guest, I do what the host does... so if he removes his shoes, so do I. Kindness can go both ways.

Well put and agree with this. I have no problems taking shoes off if that’s what is expected.

I've always felt this way. I mean as a kid I would tell my friends to do it because we would play in dirt, butut we never had company take off their shoes.

Ya I mean, if someone’s shoes are covered in mud I’m sure they would want to take them off. At least the type of people I hang out with. But if they overlooked it, I wouldn’t be mad.
