    Growing up Urban Planners, Engineers & Politicians never visited some of the neighbourhoods me and my friends grew up in. I had no idea that something that affected most facets of our life (transportation, , , , jobs places of worship etc)

    “Allen has a vision of Indigenous & Black communities working together to move forward, and I see a lot of merit in this thought. “As black people forced to these lands, we were not settlers. We were enslaved,” said Allen, emphasizing 200 years of Canadian slavery.”

    Thank so much. I look to the both of you for professional expertise and support in this shared (and often uphill journey) of co-creating cities for everyone using a deeply intersectional approach. Seeing and celebrating your history shaping work as well this . 🙏🏾✊🏾💕

    “Sassy”? Not only is this invalidating, this is racialized for sure. She’s a CHILD. Black girls are never allowed to express any emotions outside of comforting or entertaining those who harm us. Black girls are never allowed to be children.

    Within , and are the two most impacted cities. Here’s what we can do: Sit beside Chinese folks on public transit; Intervene if you witness racist comments or behaviours; Support local Chinese businesses; Ask elected officials to speak out;

    These committees have essentially become mechanisms for maintaining a “softer” “voluntary” version of “human zoo” exhibitions when mostly BIPOC Canadians are made to dress up in ethnic attire, dance, sing & prep “ethnic meals” for non-BIPOC gazes. Not anymore.

    And Canada’s is premised on maintaining two cultural identities- British colonialist and French colonialist - everything in-between those two concepts of Multiculturalism depends on how closely you align, worship and aspire towards either of those primary groups

    Unpopular 💭: I believe multicultural committees should be dismantled & replaced with racial & social equity committees. Why? ‘Cos 🇨🇦’s multicultural project was formulated & implemented to negate its history of colonialism, slavery & racial inequality

    An uncomfortable silence filled the hall for a long noticeable moment. Thank you Joaquin.

    Also some of the actors whose faces were zoomed into aren’t very good actors or haven’t learnt the art of coding (‘cos they’ve never had to) ‘cos I can see the annoyance and agitation on their faces for having to listen and be confronted with how Jaoquin is using his platform😂

    I am 😶 gobsmacked. He just admitted to the film world what we’ve been stating for some time now, which is that the most subsidized group of people have never been BIPOC but rather those that are most like Joaquin. It’s quite powerful to see him admit that on that British stage!

    It’s   — day 2. Each day I will share an urbanism related piece created by a Black person. Please follow & share. Here’s a brilliant & intimate essay exploring the intricacies of “Walking While Black.”

    What not to do in - excusing blackface and taking up spaces meant for black folks. is a very anti-black space and prominent folks with socioeconomic power don’t like to admit that so they make BIPOC who practice lateral violence into the elite team.

    It’s called anti-Black racism. Also some in this same just actively & very publicly attempted to intimidate & exclude the only Black woman councillor from the budget process ‘cos she makes them uncomfortable. So 6 councillors voting “no” to BHM isn’t surprising

    White privilege is being able to walk around State Capitol buildings armed & looking like terrorists while black children like 12 year-old Tamir Rice are murdered by police while playing with a toy gun.

    ethnicity & nationality (Portuguese) with race (Black). That alone tells me everything 🤦🏾‍♀️. Please can people stop inviting Hedy Fry to speak about Black history & concerns within the Black diaspora? ‘Cos anti-Blackness presents within POC spaces as much as it does in white spaces

    and continental Africans while under the same exhalation admitting she has no claim in this discussion tells us everything. She took this opportunity to provide an alternative POV and give Trudeau and the liberals a pass that she has no right providing. She also conflates

    who wave off and minimize anti-Black racism, because they love all the benefits of passing as Black without experiencing the actual struggle and violence from it. Mrs. Fry represents that old school world. The fact that she would accept the opportunity to speak on behalf of Black
