We can’t lose sight of the urgency of fixing our broken immigration system, and choosing compassion over cruelty. Thank you, for the powerful reminder today in Des Moines.

The same climate models that have successfully predicted actual warming to date are now running "red hot," projecting nightmare warming scenarios of 5C and more. Scientists aren't sure if the models are wrong or if our goose is cooked. ()

With this we can use clustering algorithms (here, UMAP), to automatically segment behavior into meaningful actions like sitting, walking, and climbing.

Diagrams of neural networks back when people still called them “artificial neural networks” looked more like biological neural networks.

In exciting news, my boss let me move back home to work remotely so I can be around my support system and be more financially stable. 🥳🥳🥳 I guess being the lead author on a paper about how to have a successful remote postdoc paid off!

Machines don’t really understand what they’re writing (or reading). That’s a big problem for not only academia, but also consumers.

Some scientists posted a that was flashy ("uncanny", "astonishing"), apparently not very careful, and wrong. Within hours, half a dozen experts commented that it was wrong and showed why it was wrong. This IS how it's supposed to work.

Software needs transitive credit, as well - if I use your software in my software - that glory belongs to you too. The current solution: write software papers. Shoehorning software into papers and journals can be hard, though.

In dark, tunicates (a small animal with only 177 neurons!) will swim upward. When it's light, they don't distinguish between up and down. How do they switch between these contextual behaviors? 👇how antennal cells and photoreceptors interact

We adapted a technique from human fMRI work (hyperalignment, inspired by ) enabling us to use how subject 1 encodes A and B (e.g. left and right arms of a maze), and how subject 2 encodes A, to predict how subject 2 encodes B. 2/

Rotation, Translation, and Cropping for Zero-Shot Generalization Makes a lot of sense. Try playing Doom not from an agent-centric perspective! I think agent-centric view is a better prior for encoding useful information using fewer bits for the policy.
