Yes, it is an important question as to exactly *how* to build a decentralized platform that protects free speech against corporate censorship. Web3, BTC-only, or tokenless? But note that consensus has shifted! A critical mass of the right people now *agree* this is a problem.

But the how (and then getting actual human adoption) is the only part that matters 😬. Otherwise it’s just a really fun brainstorm and theoretical exercise.

I disagree, actually. Alignment on goals is important and wasn’t there. This is an area I care about, so I have been tracking it over time. I don’t have polling data, but I remember that Zuck’s free expression talk was against prevailing sentiment. may have thoughts.

Zuck’s speech was good and necessary as a statement of principles. Tech has bent too far in the direction of the heckler’s veto over the last few years. It will take time, but the pendulum is now swinging back.

A poll tells us very little: maybe a sufficiently large number of people think Trump should tweet. That doesn’t lead to it being technically possible to build a decentralized network where it’s safe, trustworthy, scalable, usable, and useful enough for most people to switch.

I can’t list every example here but mirror.xyz, , ’s Farcaster, and many others are really pretty cool partially or wholly decentralized social networks / writing platforms. I believe it’s now technologically and commercially feasible, though hard.
