We also need mechanisms to realign tech, media, and society. One concept is: if your article or film inspires someone to found a great company that solves a social problem (eg fusion energy to address climate), as media creator you get a piece of the investment in cash & equity.
Some examples: Kristof's article inspiring Gates to go after public health, Minority Report sparking Kinect and other tech, and Ready Player One inspiring Oculus. The idea of deriving an income (like royalties) by providing value that becomes embedded in others' value-creation system (biz) is something that will unleash untold potential. Suddenly, "if you win, I win." Collaboration & mutual aid become our self-interest, literally.

Inspiration Credits. A social currency which can be redeemed for real value in form of cash or perhaps prestige and stature. I would read a science fiction author with high inspiration credit. Think about inspiring the next Elon Musk .
counterpoint: this would drive creators toward things which are practical and profitable. this is not desirable in all cases, particularly where the solution requires an approach that is orthogonal to current thinking.
Interesting idea... but a litigation nightmare.
