If real, China’s ability to build something like this in days is absolutely phenomenal. There are things they do so much better than anyone else. There is plenty of room for critique, but we should take a balanced view. I’m rooting for the Chinese people.https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1143623202121240576 …

From the official People’s Daily account, this is an incredible time lapse of the building process for one of the hospitals. The pre-fab units they are putting down have windows that appear to match those in the video that claims to be of the inside. https://twitter.com/pdchina/status/1223093548515459072?s=21 …https://twitter.com/pdchina/status/1223093548515459072 …

Americans looking at stuff like this are going to have the visceral reaction of "this is another planet, one I want nothing to do with"

The need for containment isn't a loss to me. There was a terrible tuberculosis outbreak in Puerto Rico many years ago and my Great Grandmother, a nurse taking care of patients, lost her life to the virus. Protocols and structure are necessary however restrictive they may look.

One thing to keep in mind is the potential for changes that increase lasting control over the population in the name of public safety. The journalistic focus needs to be kept on how policy can be rolled back once the epidemic is under control.

I think those hospitals were already prefabricated and ready to use from the getgo, so it only makes sense to fabricate them for really bad diseases and even if a disease appears that doesn't require oneway doors, might as well have them and not need them.

They used prefab buildings which accelerated construction. Read same happened in Beijing for SARS then it was abandoned after. Also helps when workers prob have few rights & you can construct 24x7. How many workers got injured or died during constructionhttps://clb.org.hk/en/content/calls-improve-china%E2%80%99s-work-safety-go-unheeded-2015 …
